Department of Polytechnics History
The Department of Polytechnics was initiated in 1953, when a Senior Professional Pedagogical School (the predecessor of today's Faculty of Philosophy in Rijeka) was founded in Rijeka, where teachers of professional, theoretical and practical teaching at the then vocational schools were educated. Within the framework of the education program, a two-year professional study of practical teaching at the Department of Metal and Electrical Engineering has been organized. Over time, the Department grew into Department of Polytechnics.
During the course of the evolutionary reform of education in the Republic of Croatia over the last 30 years there has been a reorganization of a two-year professional study of practical teaching. The Department primarily became single-major study and later became double-major four-year university study of Physics and Polytechnics.
As a part of the higher education reform in the Republic of Croatia, the Department of Polytechnics, following the latest trends in the world, proposed launching a university undergraduate study of Polytechnics and a graduate study of Polytechnics and Informatics. These studies were among the first at the University of Rijeka to receive positive reviews from domestic and foreign reviewers, confirming their quality and adaptation to European standards in education.
